SUMMARY:Our Whole Lives (OWL) Facilitator Trainings
DESCRIPTION:Our Whole Lives (OWL) Facilitator Trainings \nOur Whole Lives is a comprehensive sexuality education that helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their relationships\, health and behavior in the context of their faith. It equips participants with accurate\, age appropriate information in a variety of subject areas. It provides not only facts about anatomy and human development\, but also helps participants to clarify their values\, build interpersonal skills\, and understand the spiritual\, emotional\, and social aspects of sexuality. \nABOUT THE FACILITATOR TRAINING:\nThis intensive weekend training is designed to prepare facilitators to lead the Our Whole Lives/Sexuality and Our Faith curriculum in their local church or community. The cost of the curriculum materials is NOT included in the training registration fee. Curriculum materials can be purchased prior to the training by contacting UCC Resources or UUA Bookstore. Please be sure to budget accordingly for these expenses and order them in advance of the training for your appropriate level. In order to teach Our Whole Lives\, a team of leaders of different genders needs to be trained from each church or community.  \nUCC Resources\nUUA Bookstore \nPROSPECTIVE FACILITATOR REQUIREMENTS.\nThe minimum age to be considered for an OWL facilitator is 21 years old. The facilitators who implement the curriculum are important determinants of the program success; therefore\, it is very important for leaders to be highly skilled in communication and facilitation\, in managing the learning process\, and in using a variety of teaching techniques\, such as role play. They must have the ability to create an atmosphere that engages the age group and to use language and communication styles that are relevant and age-appropriate. Facilitators must have a comfort with the subject matter and be willing to support the values and goals of the program. Finally\, they must have the patience\, stamina\, and creativity necessary to manage the vast differences in maturity\, experience\, ability to dialogue\, and attention spans present in a group of participants.  \nARRIVAL: Check-in between 11 am-12 pm on Friday\, November 21\nNote: Lunch will be served at Noon and the training will begin promptly at 1 pm. You will need to plan to be present for the entire training in order to be approved.  \nDEPARTURE: The training will conclude by 12 pm on Sunday\, November 23.  \nREGISTER HERE (only one training level can be attended):  \nOur Whole Lives (OWL) Training to Facilitate Grades K-1 / 4-6\nOur Whole LIves (OWL) Training to Facilitate Grades 7-9 / 10-12\nOur Whole Lives (OWL) Training to Facilitate All Adult Levels  \nRATES & WHAT’S INCLUDED:\n$440 per facilitator  \nIncludes: cost of program/training\, meals from Friday lunch until Sunday breakfast\, 2-nights lodging\, and linens. \nEARLY BIRD DISCOUNT: Register by August 31 for $25 off  \nQuestions about registration\, facilities\, or meals? \nContact Mark Boyd at mark@pilgrim-firs.org \nQuestions about Our Whole Live curriculum or the training itself? \nContact Amy Johnson at johnsona@ucc.org

SUMMARY:PNCUCC Midwinter Retreat for Junior & Senior High Youth
DESCRIPTION:THEME: Coming Full Circle… Another Way \nLEADERSHIP TEAM: Aislyn Crane\, Kristen Miller\, Rev. Bruce Wilson \nFrom Aislyn:\nHello! I’m Aislyn Crane\, a West Seattle native. I am a member at Admiral Congregational UCC in West Seattle. I currently work in educational technology\, supporting school districts with all things tech-related. In my free time I enjoy cooking and baking\, exploring the beautiful PNW beaches we have\, and relaxing with my 2-year-old cat\, Theo. I am looking forward to spending time and getting to know each of you at Midwinter! \nKristin wrote:\nI’m Kristen! I’ve been coming to camp since I was 8\, cabin leading since I was 15 and directing since I was about 25! I love camp! I am a member at Fauntleroy UCC and a proud mama of my adorable 4 1/2-year-old Charlotte. I love baking and sewing and crafting in general! I’m so jazzed that Midwinter is making it’s come back and coming full circle.  \nAbout Bruce:\nRev. Bruce Wilson has been ordained in the United Church of Christ since 2015. He has served as a hospital chaplain\, sabbatical coverage and transitional minister for several churches in the conference\, and currently is a mental health counselor in private practice in Tacoma. Bruce has a love of nature and how theology impacts our beliefs about nature. He and his partner Shayne have a rescue dog (Gryph) and a rather large cat (Hopkins). He spends his free time fishing\, watching theatre\, and traveling! He looks forward to meeting you in the near future! Bruce is a Covenant Partner at University Congregational United Church of Christ of Seattle. \nPROGRAM INFORMATION: \nThis event is designed for youth in grades 6-12.\nWe all live busy lives that are constantly changing and moving at a very fast pace. Taking a break at camp can help us reconnect to ourselves\, each other\, and our faith. Midwinter is designed to help us gather ‘around the fire’ and check-in with how we have been\, how we want to be\, and what we need to live out our faith…Another Way. We welcome our youth to Pilgrim Firs to experience a time of connection and growth at camp!  \nMidwinter is interactive and playful. It’s a great setting for meeting new people and looking at our faith from new perspectives. The food is always amazing and there’s lots of it. There will be some serious times and some laugh out loud times. We’ll get outside when the weather allows\, and stay warm and dry inside the rest of the time. Our special guest is Kaila Russell\, basket weaver extraordinaire.  \nIn an effort to increase inclusivity\, this year we are offering an optional mixed-gender cabin.
